25Mb/s ATM NIC CARD
FVC.COM's
VC-NIC is an advanced, RISC processor based 25Mb/s ATM NIC card that is
specifically architected to implement video networking. The VC-NIC is
equipped with an industry standard onboard MVIP for direct connection to
videoconferencing stations.
Using a unique three-port
"switch-on-a-card" design, the VC-NIC enables switching between
the PC bus, ATM network and FVC.COM's integrated H.320 video conferencing
MVIP interface. The design allows for the attachment of a broad array of
both room-system and desktop video conferencing equipment from
manufacturers such as PictureTel, Zydacron, VTEL, VCON and Nortel. The VC-NIC
implements UNI 3.x standard ATM over UTP category 3 and 5 wiring
BUSINESS
QUALITY VIDEO NETWORKING
FVC.COM is the leading provider of products
that implement business and broadcast quality video over corporate
intranets and the Next Generation Internet (NGI). The VC-NIC features an
ARM RISC processor, a hardware SAR and on-board memory to allow processing
of multimedia data without burdening the host processor. Each VC-NIC
includes an integrated MVIP interface for direct attachment to industry
standard video conferencing equipment. Ease of installation is ensured, as
the VC-NIC is 'plug-and-play' compliant, requiring no configuration when
installed into a suitable PC chassis. The VC-NIC runs LAN Emulation
version 1.0 to facilitate transparent access to data file servers and also
utilizes UNI 3.x signaling. The VC-NIC is designed to operate in Microsoft
Windows 95, 98 and NT environments, with full NDIS and miniport compliant
drivers included with every card. The VC-NIC is the most advanced 25Mb/s
NIC card available for the implementation of true multimedia networking.
KEY ATTRIBUTES
- Hardware SAR.
Hardware segmentation and reassembly provides the smoothest possible
traffic shaping to reduce host processing resource requirements.
- ARM RISC
Processor.
To further enhance performance and to minimize the processing required
by the host CPU, the VC-NIC includes an on-board RISC chip. This chip
runs the LAN Emulation software, signaling processes and also handles
interaction with FVC.COM's MOS software.
- On-Board MVIP.
The VC-NIC includes an integrated MVIP interface that provides direct
connection to the multi-vendor video conferencing equipment thereby
allowing video traffic to bypass the host bus.
- Standards Based.
The VC-NIC is fully compliant with ATM standards such as UNI 3.x and
LAN Emulation. FVC.COM has also conducted extensive interoperability
testing with equipment from major networking equipment manufacturers
such as Ascend, Bay Networks, Cisco Systems, FORE Systems, IBM,
Nortel, and others.
- Comprehensive
Driver Support.
The VC-NIC is designed to implement video networking in the Microsoft
Windows environment. Support is provided for Windows 95, 98 and NT.
- Support for
ATM's QoS.
The VC-NIC offers provides guaranteed video conferencing performance
across the network. Support includes CBR and VBR classes of service
for the transport of video traffic. It also supports UBR for LAN
Emulation data transport. This combination allows the VC-NIC to
function well in environments that must combine multimedia traffic
with traditional LAN data traffic.
- Built-in LAN
Emulation Support.
The VC-NIC offers support for LAN Emulation to enable the handling of
bursty LAN based data as well as video based traffic. The VC-NIC can
seamlessly handle multiple streams of data and video with ease.
